John Newman praises medical staff after confirming brain tumour has returned

Love Me Again singer John Newman has confirmed that his brain tumour has returned but has vowed to continue making music.

Newman discovered that he had a non-cancerous brain tumour after visiting an optician for eye tests in 2012 and the tumour was subsequently removed through his nose by neurosurgeons.

The popular performer posted a statement on Twitter this afternoon following reports in British tabloids about his health.

Newman said: “This was going to come out at some point and it’s probably best it’s out in the open now.

“I have been monitored constantly since the first time I had the tumour removed.

“There was always a chance that it could return and it is unfortunate but it is something I am prepared to get through when the time is right, some point next year.”

The talented performer praised the medical staff who have been keeping an eye on him.

Newman said: “The medical staff have been absolutely amazing and I know I am in the best of hands.”

The 26-year-old told fans not to worry and that he will continue to make music for his eager following.

He said: “Nothing will ever stop me from doing the job I love so much, nothing will ever stop me from making music.

“People shouldn’t worry about me, the prognosis is good and there are so many people in far more serious situations.

“I just hope this in some way helps raise awareness for those people and encourages people to be tested and treated as early as possible ― I am one of the lucky ones!”

Newman shot to fame when he featured on Rudimental’s 2012 tracks Not Giving In and Feel the Love before releasing his own debut album Tribute and follow-up album Revolve.

His debut solo single Love Me Again reached number one in the UK and is just shy of 450 million YouTube views.

Newman’s latest collaboration with Calvin Harris on new single Olé is already proving a summer hit with the music video filmed in Mexico set for release this Friday.
